The Birth & Purpose of the Blessing Field

The Cambodian Southern Baptist Fellowship (CSBF) is one of the larger associations of Cambodian churches in North America. An annual conference has been held in different places in the United States for over 20 years. At its 21st Annual Conference in 2005, the Holy Spirit moved Dr. Seang Yiv, the current chairman of CSBF, and his wife to donate a 75-acre piece of land in Macon, Georgia, to CSBF. That same night, the CSBF Board coined the name “The Blessing Field” for the land, which is to be developed into a conference center.

One year later at the 22nd Annual Conference, the vision for the Blessing Field substantially expanded: the land is also to be the site of the first museum which will trace the Christian Cambodians’ journey from the Killing Fields to the Blessing Field. Strong support and much excitement for the Blessing Field emerged at the conference and thereafter. This was evidenced by many pledges of donations, tithings, and volunteers toward the land development.

The Blessing Field is meant to be a testimony of God’s goodness of the Killing Fields generation to our children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and all others. In the same way God dried up the Red Sea and saved the Bible-time Israelites from the hands of their enemies, God continues to be the same loving and merciful God in our modern day. He extended His loving hands to save the fallen Khmer people and show mercy to the people of the Killing Fields.

It is important for the Cambodian Christians to remember how much destruction sin and hatred can cause. It is even more important for them to remember that God is the ultimate Author of redemption, forgiveness, and love. It is, therefore, only a modest gesture from the part of the survivors of the Killing Fields that they unite their hearts and minds to thankfully dedicate the Blessing Field as a remembrance of our dear Lord’s great blessing.

The primary purpose of the Blessing Field is to have a place where Christian Cambodians and other Christians can come together to worship God, remember His blessings, voice their gratitude and thanksgiving to Him, get trained, and proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ. Our vision is to develop a conference center/Christian training camp for the benefit of God’s people of all nationalities and walks of life.

Secondly, the Blessing Field is to house a museum where true stories will be compiled, archived, preserved, and exhibited of thousands of Christian Cambodians, whom He has lifted out of the Killing Fields and gave a firm place to stand by His grace. It is our objective that the Cambodian offspring and interested people of this and future generations will be able to come to the museum to learn about Cambodia, the Killing Fields, and the stories of the survivors of the Killing Fields and their descendants.
