 greatest fear.PNG

From 1976 to 1979, I lived with a lot of fear after my father's execution.  I feared the killing of my mother, brother, and sister.  Do you know that fear itself is not a sin?  It is neither good, nor bad, like anger. It’s what we do with our fear, the actions we take, that can lead to sin or be sin. We fear the collapse of the church because the statistics show that more and more people are rejecting the claims of Christ and teens are walking away from the faith at alarming rates.  We fear that we will lose our jobs because the corporations are continually downsizing, and perhaps we feel the squeeze at our place of employment.

Q246:  What is our greatest fear?

A246:  "For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline." ~ 2 Timothy 1:7.  "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." ~ John 14:27.  And He said to the human race,“The fear of the Lord—that is wisdom, and to shun evil is understanding.” ~ Job 28:28.  Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me."

If we could ask everyone what their greatest fears were and get people to be totally honest, we would say most of them boil down to a fear of the future. Fear is a big part of life. We fear because we're afraid that we're going to face something we don't understand, we will have to face it alone. To understand fear and overcome it, we must look to God’s Word in the Scriptures. God wants us to walk in faith, not fear, because He is always with us, and dwells with us. If we believe that there is a God, if we believe there is a Creator, and if we believe there is a truth—one universal truth—then perhaps it’s time to consult the Creator of the universe, and discover the answers.

Today's Prayer

Heavenly Father, our fear has trapped and consumed us. But we are tired of living under the weight of our fears. Today's verses reassure us of Your presence and confirm that You are able to deliver us from our trouble. Please give us Your love and Your power to replace these fears. Your perfect love casts out our fear. We thank You for promising to give us the peace that only You can give. We receive that peace now as we ask You to still our troubled heart. Because You are with us, we don't have to be afraid.  In Your Son, Jesus' name, who our Lord and Savior, we pray. Amen.

Grace and peace,

Veasna Eddie Khem

Do everything in love (1 Corinthians 16:14) .  Delight yourself in the LORD and He will give you the desires of your heart (Psalms 37:4).
